Hermes (1953). On the flight (1) deck during conversion.

A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the flight (1) deck looking to starboard at the port side of the forward end of the island superstructure at 81 station. A lorry mounted Simon hydraulic platform is on the right inboard of the weapons lift cover with the ship's bridge beyond it. Two multi point hose connectors and a large water hose are laid on the deck. RAS (replenishment at sea) equipment is on top of and in front of the island extension.
