On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the port flight (1) deck walkway looking aft towards the LCVP gantries from 146 station. The ladder down to the gallery (2) deck is in the foreground and a multi point hose connector with hoses attached is on the grating. Skips, wooden pallets and a pile of gash are on the flight deck. The submarine depot ship Forth (1938) is alongside 8 wharf in the background. A vertical format negative.
