On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the walkway in front of the angled flight (1) deck on the port side at 64 station looking forward and to starboard showing a scupper in the right foreground with a fire point and chemical foam locker on a raised platform. Beyond is an avcat fuel pump unit. The forward sponson is on the left. On the starboard side of the flight deck is the lattice structure for the FU1 commutated aerial direction finder system for aircraft. A vertical format negative.
