On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the port walkway alongside the flight (1) deck at 112 station looking forward showing a fire point with chemical foam locker, a steel ladder, a flat-topped locker, a fire point with a chemical foam locker, two cable reels and a glide path indicator. Containers are on the deck edge lift and a brow is on the flight deck. The aircraft carrier Ark Royal (1950) is alongside number 5 wharf in the background. A vertical format negative.
