Hermes (1953) in the north yard at HM Dockyard, Devonport. The island from the alaskan highway on the flight (1) deck during conversion.

A 35 mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the alaskan highway on the starboard side of the flight (1) deck at 120 station looking aft and slightly to port at the island superstructure. A RAS (replenishment at sea) cordage reel is under the 01 deck overhang. Three telephones and four watertight doors can be seen. A linked hose is connected to the avcat (furthest) and avgas (nearest) fuel connections and the furnace fuel oil connection is between them. The Outfit ETB platform and the boat crane are in the background.
