On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the starboard side of the flight (1) deck at 140 station looking forward at the aft end of the island showing the watertight doors into the lobby on the right and the ready use pryotechnics magazine on the left. Scaffolding is up against the end of the island.
