On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside the east wall in the Prince of Wales Number 5 Dock in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the port side of the flight (1) deck at 86 station looking aft and to port showing the glide path indicator in position. In the left background is the bow of the laid up tank landing ship Messina (1945), pendant L3043. In the right background is the aircraft carrier Ark Royal (1950) alongside number 5 wharf.
