On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking to starboard from the port side at 58 station showing a greatcoat locker in the left foreground with the closed watertight hatch leading down to the port plummer block compartment on 4 deck and suitcase racks beyond. Kit lockers are on the right with the open watertight hatch leading down to the avcat pump space on 4 deck beyond them. A vertical format negative.
