On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking to port from 69 station on the centreline of the mess. The watertight door to the lobby is closed but not clipped. A fire hose stowage rack, an electric fire, an air conditioning unit and kit lockers are against the forward bulkhead. Suitcase racks and kit lockers are on the left. A vertical format negative.
