The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). In the senior rates' mess between 56 and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck.

On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 56 and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward and to starboard from 58 station showing the lounge area of the mess. A settee bench with drawers under is against the forward bulkhead and a television with shelves above are in the corner. A bar unit for Whitbread Trophy bitter is against the ship's side and a Brownson two gallon hot water urn is on the end of the bar.
