On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the starboard side of 1 deck looking aft from 45 station showing the helicopter smoke locker, helicopter pyrotechnics locker and GWS power room. Air bottles are in a cabinet fixed to the bulkhead of the GWS power room. An empty cable reel is suspended from 01 deck and liferafts are stowed against the side of the hangar. The bow of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962) is in the background.
