On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 49 and 63 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from 50½ station showing the door to the senior rates' dining hall on the extreme left with the senior rates' servery sliding door next to it. A fire extinguisher, smoke mask cabinet, armoured hose stowage and cable stowage brackets are ahead of the door to rthe junior rates' dining hall. three crew members are in the passage passing another man in the lobby at 58 station.
