On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is on the flight deck between 57 and 67 stations on 1 deck looking aft and to starboard from 58 station on the port side showing the landing circle and centreline marked on deck. A striped awning has been rigged over the flight deck and perforated wooden boxes have been put over the bollards. A plain awning has been rigged over the stern. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The forepart of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Bacchus (1962), pendant A404, is in the background berthed on the eastern end of the basin.
