The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). In the transmitting station between 26 and 28¼ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck.
On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the transmitting station between 26 and 28¼ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward from 27½ station showing the MRS 3, Mod 3 gunnery control system. At the top of this system are four dial panels labelled 'left hand', 'centre left', centre right' and 'right hand'. At waist height are three pull-out shelves and under these are three drawers marked 'left hand', 'centre' and 'right hand'. A bank of servo units is on the right and attached to top is a piece of paper or envelope addressed to Squadron Mech. G.T. Robertson, L.S. & G.C.M., HMS Lowestoft. The initials L.S. & G.C.M. stand for Long Service & Good Conduct Medal.
