On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking to starboard from the starboard side at 20 station showing a tea locker, a bread locker, greatcoat lockers, a folding table, two stacks of tubular chairs, an air conditioning unit and a clock reading 10.00. A mess fanny is on the deck. A number of waterproofs are hanging on hooks on the right.
