On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking aft and to starboard from the port side at 28 station showing a folding table and tubular chairs in the foreground, triple tier bunk units, kit lockers, an electric fire, a suitcase rack, dirty clothes lockers, an emergency change over switch and connection box and the watertight hatch leading down to 4 deck.
