On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking forward from the centreline at 30 station showing a triple tier bunk unit, an air conditioning unit, kit lockers, a mirror, a fire extinguisher, a telephone and a pressure gauge. On a locker is an Esso poster of the England World Cup Squad of 1970.
