On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the pay and correspondence office between 32 and 35½ stations on the port side of 3 deck looking to port and slightly aft showing a workbench with sliding door cupboards and a combination safe below. An Imperial typewriter and a machine with a plastic cover over it are on the workbench. A letter and correspondence pigeon hole unit is against the ship's side with a Thermotank air conditioning unit next to it.
