On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the gunnery direction position between 31½ and 33½ stations on 01 deck looking forward from the starboard side showing an azimuth repeater in the corner with an interphone unit, a rudder indicator and a tannoy to the left of it. On the starboard screen are four microphones and another tannoy. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay and a Leander class frigate is berthed ahead of her. A vertical format negative.
