HMS Pembroke coming to in Pola Roads, 14th May 1839. Dedicated to Captn Fairfax Moresby C.B.

This lithograph depicts the Pembroke, from the starboard stern quarter, preparing to anchor in the Pola Roads (now Pula in Croatia). Her sails are looped in readiness for furling and many of the crew are at the mastheads. A small local lateen-rigged boat, with furled sail, lies just off the Pembroke’s starboard bow. The shore can be seen in the background. On the right side of the picture are the ruins of a large Roman amphitheatre and, on the left, part of a low arched structure.
