On board the guided missile destroyer HMS Kent (1961) in No. 3 Basin in Chatham Dockyard, Kent. The photographer is in the main communications office between 66 and 71 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to starboard from the centre of the office showing a transmitter cabinet undergoing maintenance on a desk on the right. A message tube is suspended from the deckhead in the centre. Permanent containers are stacked on the desk in the centre and a ledger shelf is above it. Cupboards, shelves, a small combination safe and a clock reading 2.14 are against the aft bulkhead. A naval communications rating is working at a desk on the left.
