On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Londonderry (1958) alongside the fitting out berth at the West Cowes shipyard of John Samuel White & Co Ltd. The photographer is on the starboard side of 1 deck looking aft and to port from 71 station showing the quarterdeck. In the foreground is the canvas covered reel for the 8 inch nylon towing hawser. By the open watertight hatch are the mooring pendant and berthing wire reels and the unifoxer winch is just abaft and to starboard of the hatch. The two central bollards have wooden covers. In the starboard aft corner of the deck is the bathythermograph winch and in the port aft corner is the chemical smoke maker. Awning stanchions are rigged. The west shore of the River Medina and the Thetis Road and Shamblers Copse area of West Cowes are in the background.
