On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking aft from 69 station just to port of the centreline showing six triple bunk units, two kit lockers, two boot lockers and a suitcase rack. An electric fire and an automatic emergency lantern are fitted to a pillar and a watertight manhole is abaft it.
