On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is looking forward into the canteen between 18½ and 21 stations on the port side of 2 deck from the serving hatch in the door. A Thermotank air conditioning unit is above a desk against the forward bulkhead. The canteen is fully fitted out with shelves and cupboards. Goods on sale include bags of Smith's Big D nuts, Scripto laundry marker pens, Ekco fluorescent light tubes, cigarettes, Dettol, Vaseline hair tonic, Brylcreem, Tate & Lyle sugar, Bovril, Cadbury's drinking chocolate, instant coffee, Ovaltine, Schweppe's lemonade, SPC fruit, Smith's quavers, Heinz soups and Right Guard anti-perspirant.
