The Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959). The signal flag locker at 38 station on the port side of 01 deck.

On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is looking aft, to port and down from the MRS 3 director showing the signal flag locker at 38 station on the port side of 01 deck. The canvas cover of the locker is rolled up to reveal the flags in their marked pigeon holes. In the foreground are an air conditioning system fan exhaust and a pyrotechnics locker. On the right is the circular platform for the single 20 mm oerlikon gun pedestal mount. A cable reel and the forward davit for the 25 feet motor cutter are on the left. A light covering of snow is in evidence.
