On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is on the quarterdeck between 67 and 80½ stations on 2 deck looking forward and to port from 78 station on the starboard side showing two pairs of bollards covered with wooden seats with a third seat between them. Two cable reels are ahead of the seats with an hydraulic powered cable reel further ahead on the port side. On the left is the type 182 torpedo decoy system davit and two decoys. The watertight hatch down to the steering gear compartment is open and awning stanchions are rigged. In the background against the north wall of the basin is the frigate Phoebe (1964), pendant F42, undergoing maintenance.
