On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the Limbo mortar well between 67 and 71 stations on the centreline of 2 deck looking forward and to starboard showing the mortar mounting with the barrells trained aft and to port. The tops of the barrells are out of the picture. The quartermaster's telephone cabinet is propped up against the mortar handing room bulkhead in the left foreground. The ship is berthed starboard side to the basin wall.
