Herzogin Cecilie

An original watercolour, signed by artist. Starboard view of the Herzogin Cecilie (1902), a four-masted, freight-carrying barque making good way with her sails trimmed to catch the wind from port. Only the lowest (course) sail is loosely reefed. The hull is painted white and white flag with blue cross flies from the rigging on the jigger (fourth) mast indicating her port of registry as Mariehamn, Finland. Three ship's boats can be seen, two towards the stern and one amidships. Crew members are shown working at the bow and the stern. The only other vessel is on the horizon to the left of Herzogin Cecilie.
