Galilean model telescope
This is a replica of the handheld Galilean telescope, inventory number 2428 in the Museo Galileo (magnification of 20.6). It has a red leather tube with has gold tooling at intervals along the tube. This model was purchased from the Insitute e Museo di Storia della Scienza in Florence, Italy in 1974. The Florence Museum has a large collection of material relating to Galileo.
Telescope: The object glass end and the eye end are both detatchable from the main tube. There are lenses at both ends. The tube tapers off towards the eye end. The diameter of the object glass end is 60 mm and the diameter of the eye end is 40mm. The telescope is in very good condition.
