A bow view of the general cargo steamer Wimborne (1898) semi-submerged off Tol-Padn-Penwith, Cornwall

A middle distant view, fine of the starboard bow of the steel screw general cargo steamer Wimborne (1898) wrecked below the rocks off Tol-Padn-Penwith, two-and-a-half miles to the southeast of Land's End. The ship is semi-submerged from the bridge to the stern in rough seas, which are breaking over the ship. The right side of the image is dominated by the perpendicular craggy cliff face of Carn Guthenbras. The photographer was standing on the cliff top looking down and across to the sea.

This is a copy negative from an original print. Masking fluid has been used to enhance the rough waves.

The Wimborne (1898) was on passage from Rotterdam to Barry in ballast, when it was caught in a gale and bad visibility, and ended up shore off the cliffs of Carn Guthenras and Top-Pedn-Penwith, Cornwall.
