The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is up on a crane on the quayside looking forward, to starboard and down showing the port Seacat GWS21 close range blind fire director to port abaft the after funnel, the mainmast and the forefunnel. Four 25 feet motor cutters and one 27 feet motor whaler are in davits. The type 278 height finding radar aerial is on a platform projecting from the rear of the mainmast, the top of which is out of the picture. The base of the foremast and the upper command platform are ahead of the forefunnel. The Cunard vessel Franconia (1955), ex Ivernia, is on the opposite side of the basin being converted to a dual purpose transatlantic liner and cruise ship.
