The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is on a raised position on the quayside abreast the ship's superstructure at 01 deck level looking to starboard showing the port side of the superstructure at 01 and 02 deck levels between the forefunnel at 84 station and the mainmast at 100 station. Covered liferafts are at the deck edge on either side of the door to the deck store and a bearded officer is standing on 01 deck between the deck store door and the stairs. The mainmast is on the right. Two senior shipyard officials and a rating are on 02 deck. The Cunard vessel Franconia (1955), ex Ivernia, is on the opposite side of the basin converting to a dual purpose transatlantic liner and cruise ship.
