The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is on a raised position on the quayside abreast 108 station looking to starboard and slightly forward showing the gap in the ship's superstructure abaft the mainmast at 01 deck level and the forward 25 feet motor cutter in its davits with the base of the mainmast beyond it. Crewmen are bringing stores aboard over the brow. The Cunard vessel Franconia (1955), ex Ivernia, is on the opposite side of the basin converting to a dual purpose transatlantic liner and cruise ship.
