The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is on a raised position on the quayside abreast 138 station looking to starboard and slightly aft showing the type 901 radar director at the end of the aft superstructure on 02 deck level and the forward end of the flight deck. The top of the 901 director is out of the picture. The missile embarkation hatch in the flight deck is not properly closed and two warrant officers are looking at it. A lieutenant is walking forward along the port side of 01 deck and two workmen are going ashore down the brow. The Cunard vessel Franconia (1955), ex Ivernia, is on the opposite side of the basin converting to a dual purpose transatlantic liner and cruise ship.
