On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the senior rates mess between 56 and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to starboard from the forward end showing a double tier bunk unit next to an open scuttle on the right. Against the starboard side of the ship are a beer dispencing cupboard, a Thermotank air conditioning unit, a clock reading 2.21, a main broadcast loudspeaker, two Plymouth ship's badges, a tankard, tumblers and beer mugs. A double tier bunk unit is on the left and in the centre is a table on which are cups, jugs, bowls and a teapot.
