Regent's Canal Stepney

A print showing the Regents Canal in Stepney. A series of waterways linked London's dock system with the Thames and with the national canal network, allowing goods to be moved with greater ease. The canal flowed into the docks at Limehouse and was an important communications and trading link. Barges can be seen on the water. One man is using a pole to push his vessel under a bridge while other men are pulling a barge from the bank. On the far bank horses are present. Even at this late stage they would have still been used to pull barges. Signed by artist and dated.
