Fishing craft at sea, with mountain beyond, Lofofens Island off Norway
A single masted square rigged with topsail fishing craft sits in the foreground, backed by a mountain range, with seagulls in flight on the right side. In 1907 Marion Amy Wyllie, W. L. Wyllie’s wife, published the book Norway and its Fjords which was illustrated by Wyllie. Marion Wyllie wrote “This is one picturesque side of the Lofotens, the background to the mighty fishing industry that costs more lives every year than if the country was in the midst of war.” Mounted with PAD8346.
