On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Nubian (1960) alongside South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard prior to commissioning on 9 October 1962. The photographer is in the seamen's mess between 67 and 73 stations on the port side of 3 deck looking aft and to starboard from 70½ station on the port side showing a triple tier bunk unit in the right foreground, another in the left foreground and one against the starboard bulkhead. Three tables and seven chairs are in the centre and another chair is standing on the bunk against the starboard bulkhead. Tea and games lockers, two bookshelves, a clock reading 03.01, a loudspeaker and an automatic emergency lantern are against the aft bulkhead.
