On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Nubian (1960) alongside South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard prior to commissioning on 9 October 1962. The photographer is on the starboard side of the forecastle at 12 station looking forward and to port showing the anchor cables and hawse pipes with the riding bit [bitt] between them. The starboard anchor cable has a screw stopper fitted to it. The towing hawse is just abaft the jackstaff. Portsmouth Harbour railway station and Isle of Wight ferry pier are in the background.
