'Courageux' [4 Nov 1805]
A study of the hull of the 74-gun 'Courageux', which fought at Trafalgar, inscribed accordingly by the artist. Why it has been dated 4 Nov 1805 – in a much later hand than Pocock's – is not yet clear. The drawing, which includes two small cutters shown below under sail, may show the ship laid up after the battle with her masts taken out. However no mooring cable is visible. This event is unlikely to have been as early as November 1805. PAD8828 is a similar view of 'Victory', possibly in the Medway post-Trafalgar.
