The photographer is looking aft from 70 feet up on the foremast showing the aft end of the ship while the ship is heading into a steep running sea. Her stern is rising clear of the swell. The canvas cover on her starboard whaler is missing. The two single 40mm bofors guns ahead of the mainmast are cocooned. A vertical format negative.
