The photographer is looking aft from 70 feet up on the foremast showing the starboard quarter of the ship awash in the running sea when the ship rolls to starboard. The canvas cover of the starboard whaler is missing. Note the stowage racks for the weather balloon gas bottles on deck abaft the mainmast. A vertical format negative.
