The photographer is on board the Royal Navy light cruiser Tiger (1945) in the North Atlantic off north-west Scotland and the carrier was close alongside to carry out a replenishment at sea and a jackstay transfer. The oil refuelling hose is suspended from a derrick abaft the carrier's island. The Tiger (1945) was the flagship of Vice-Admiral F R Twiss who commanded a fleet of 46 ships drawn from six NATO nations for the exercise which took place in the waters off Cape Wrath and Loch Ewe between 16 and 24 October 1963.
