On board the light cruiser Tiger (1945) in the North Atlantic off north-west Scotland during the NATO exercise Flat Rock. The photographer is below decks, possibly in the engine or boiler rooms showing lagged pipework and valves, but the precise location is unknown. The Tiger (1945) was the flagship of Vice-Admiral F R Twiss who commanded a fleet of 46 ships drawn from six NATO nations for the exercise which took place in the waters off Cape Wrath and Loch Ewe.
