The photographer is looking down from the promenade deck on the starboard side aft showing three ten-oared lifeboats alongside the accommodation ladder preparing for a race. The crews of the boats are a mix of passengers and crew members. The crew members are in the bow and at the tiller of each boat and are in uniform. The passengers are wearing a mix of paper hats including fezes. A seaman at the foot of the accommodation is pushing the boats away with his foot.
