A Ningpo passenger junk under sail at Woosung
A port quarter view of a single-masted Ningpo passenger junk under sail. It has many men on deck and the lower edge of the portside leeboard is just in the water. A close view of this vessel can be seen in negative N64430.
In the background, along the quayside, is a starboard broadside view of Pekin (1873), a large paddle steamer with steeple engines, shown with the bow out of shot. She has lifeboats hanging form davits.
The shoreline is lined with European-style buildings.
The original negative envelope was labelled: 'Man o'war junk. Woosung. 24.9.00'.
