The German battleship Kurfurst Friedrich Wilhelm (1891) at anchor.

A port bow view of the German battleship Kurfurst Friedrich Wilhelm (1891) at anchor at Wusong/Woosung. The two guns on the fore deck are pointed forward and upwards at a 45 degree angle. Boats are stowed amidships and there are men on deck and on the bridge. There is a two-masted junk alongside, with sails furled.

Another two-funnelled warship is behind, off the starboard beam. To the right of the photograph in the near foreground is a vertical rail with a chain (possibly an awning stantion), belonging to the vessel from which Kenneth Hurlstone Jones took the photo.

The original negative envelope, contained this, as well as another glass plate negative [N66410] (as well as two contact prints). It was labelled: 'German Battleships. 2. Woosung, 1900' and the accompanying contact print for this negative was labelled on the reverse: 'German Battleship, Woosung, Sept 24th 1900'.
