Ningpo passenger junk underway at Shanghai
A port quarter view of a single-masted Ningpo passenger junk under sail at Shanghai. It is loaded with passengers in the bow and stern, with some of them looking at the camera. It has a small deck house amidships, and a leeboard is mounted on the port side but only partially. This is the same junk depicted in negative N64405.
In the middle distance on the left is another Ningpo passenger junk under sail. In the background is a starboard side view of the Pekin (1873), a large single-funnel paddle steamer. 'PEKIN' is written on the paddle box. Along the quayside behind are three-storey European style buildings.
The original contact print have been labelled: 'Ningpo passenger junk'.
