On board the Royal Navy frigate Rapid (1942) under way during the Maritime Air Defence Exercise Highwood which took place in the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. The photographer is looking forward and to starboard over the forecastle from the port side at 01 deck level as the ship approaches the port quarter of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary oiler Wave Chief (1946) which is refuelling the destroyer Cavalier (1944) to starboard. The pendant number of the Wave Chief is A265 and of Cavalier is D73.
