On board the Royal Navy frigate Rapid (1942) under way during the Maritime Air Defence Exercise Highwood which took place in the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. The photographer is looking aft and to starboard from the starboard side at the aft end of 01 deck level as she prepares to refuel from the oiler. Her motor whaler in its davits is in the foreground and some of her crew are hauling in the lines connected to the fuelling hoses of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary oiler Wave Chief (1946) which is steaming close alongside. Only the aft end of the oiler is in the picture.
